Lake Tahoe Half Marathon

So in February, my friend Brittany asked me if I wanted to do the Lake Tahoe Half Marathon with her in June! Obviously, I said YES and Steven said yes because his cousin that he hasn’t seen in forever lives in Lake Tahoe – so it was a perfect time to visit him and take a couples’ trip!

We flew from LA – SF and stayed with our friends Lucy and Jerry.  They both are newish residents of San Francisco and it was so fun to catch up with them! We had them stay with us in Provo in January, so we were really excited to see them! I can always trust Lucy to take me to the best food places and I was right! They picked us up from the airport and we went straight to the yummiest Ramen place (but the worst service…lol).

We had about a day and a half to explore SF – so the next day we went to Lombard street, toured Lucy’s work at Square, Twin Peaks and Dumplings! Touring Lucy’s work was a big highlight of our day because we were treated to free lunch, smoothie bar and ginger shots hahahah it was so fun. Maybe because I love free food but whatever!!

The next day, we went with Jerry to Seward Slides, Bi-Rite Creamery, Painted Ladies, and the iconic mosaic steps! Then we met up with Brittany and her husband Joram to road trip to Lake Tahoe! We checked into our hotel (HOTEL CHALET) & went to bed because we were so tired from the drive up and we had our race the next morning!

Joram & Steven dropped Brittany and I off at the start line for the Lake Tahoe Half Marathon! We ran the whole race together which was so nice because we could pace ourselves.  It was about 75% down hill and when it was up hill I hated it hahaha. I was feeling good from Miles 1 – 7.  At mile 8, I felt the blisters on my toes, but I kept going! I was really impressed with the snacks/drink stations at each mile. It made you look forward to each mile. Mile 10 felt like an ETERNITY! We were running most of the time on the main highway and then mile 10-11 was in the woods so I had no clue where we were.  The last mile we basically sprinted to the finish line while Brittany is holding on to a red bull from one of the drink stations hahaha It felt so good to finish!! It was so nice that this race wasn’t as big as the Nike Women’s Half because it was easier for Steven and Joram to take pics of us through out the race!

I think my favorite thing about the race is that I can eat WHATEVER I WANT!! We went to Heidi’s Pancake House and it was so yummy! We went back to the hotel to rest and shower and then we met up with Steven’s cousin Scott and his girlfriend Kayla.  Steven had not seen Scott in years so it was a great reunion for them.  We went out for fro-yo and found out that runners get free fro yo ALL WEEKEND. We definitely took advantage of that and went twice. Then we went and relaxed at the lake and ate yummy Greek food!

For our last day in Tahoe, we went to Emerald Lake and Emerald Bay.  Both, beautiful places to visit if you are in South Lake Tahoe! We drove back to SF and they dropped us off at the airport.  It was an awesome trip and another half marathon in the books! Now I’m training for the New York City Marathon happening in November – so wish me luck!!

XOXO,

Lizzie Lin Johnson

Quick Trip to Arizona!

This past weekend I flew from Provo, Utah to Mesa, Arizona to visit my best friend Lindsay Murray & her family! I bought my tickets on Allegiant a month ago because I just felt like it’s been too long since I haven’t seen Lindsay! But, then we saw her, Luke & Bentley in Coronado, California over Winter break!

I arrived at the Mesa airport Friday night & Lindsay, Luke & Bentley picked me up and brought yummy pizza from MOD Pizza.. YUM! It was a pretty chill night and it was nice to just catch up with all of them.  I love LOVE playing with Bentley.  I don’t think he remembered me from Coronado but slowly he caught on that I wasn’t some crazy Asian lady always wanting to hold him. Lindsay and I stayed up late and just chatted about our lives and how crazy life has been since we were little freshmen at the Helaman Halls together. So, Lindsay and I were roommates Freshmen year at the dorms and then Fall semester at Liberty Square! Then she got married to Luke and now has Bentley!! I’m honestly so grateful for a best friend like Lindsay because without her I don’t know where i’d be without her freshmen year!!

On Saturday, it was honestly just a chill day! We went to run some errands in the morning, saw the new Gilbert LDS temple, fed ducks at the park, picked oranges at Lindsay’s family’s farm and ate dinner at Joe’s Farm Grill! It was an awesome time hanging out with Lindsay and Bentley.

On Sunday, I got breakfast with my friends Nolan and Stephen! I met them at my days at King Henry and now they live in Mesa. It was awesome catching up with them.  I don’t know how I got so lucky in the friend department. I’m also grateful that I’ve kept in touch with so many people throughout my time at BYU.  I was excited to get back to Provo because it was my first time away from my hubby! We’ve been together every day since who knows when!! Now you can stop reading and enjoy the photos!

Xoxo,

Coronado, California

Yesterday, we had the chance to explore Coronado, California with our friends Lindsay and Luke Murray! Oh and we can’t forget Bentley! (I love that cute curly haired kid.)

We drove from Carlsbad to Lindsay’s Grandpa’s condo right by Hotel Del Coronado and the view is AMAZING from their condo. Lindsay’s sister Mary and her husband Zack and their baby Stella were there also. It was nice to catch up with everyone! The last time I saw them were at our wedding and that day was so busy that I barely talked to anyone! Steven is the sweetest for letting us go visit them in Coronado because I get to see Lindsay in 10 days hahaha in Mesa!!

Luke ordered a HUGE pizza and we caught up more. For all of those who don’t know Lindsay, she’s one of my very best friends. We met at BYU during the fall of our freshmen year.  We became roommates at Helaman Halls winter semester and it’s been Lizzie & Lindsay (and 6 chicks) ever since!!! Lindsay got married to Luke in 2011 so she’s been married forever now but we’ve still been friends with everything that has happened in our lives. If only we moved to Mesa then our kids could grow up together hahaha

After pizza, Lindsay, Luke, Bentley, Steven and I took a lonnngggg walk to the dog park at the end of the beach and it was a ton of fun catching up with Lindsay and looking at all of the cute beach front houses. We got to the dog park and there weren’t that many dogs because it was raining but it was fun seeing Bentley get licked by all the dogs!!

We walked back to the condos in the rain and it was just an awesome day with some of our great friends. We are definitely thankful for great friends like Lindsay and Luke who will always be lifelong friends to us.

Our Wedding Day

Okay, so it’s been exactly 4 months since our wedding day! I know I know… I’ve procrastinated. Please forgive me.

If you follow me on Instagram or you are my friend on Facebook, you’ve already seen a LOT of photos from our favorite day ever. Also, this is my first post on this new blog.  My New Year’s Resolution is to be consistent for an entire year on this blog! I know if I am consistent in 2016 it’ll help me later on in years to come.  Yes, this is my 3rd blog but I have a feeling this will be my best blog yet!

I’m focusing on a “lifestyle blog.” Yeah yeah… Lifestyle.. that can be anything right? My main focus is on my family, the adventures we go on, the food we cook in our home, and whatever I want my life to be hahaha I’m starting this as like my online journal for Steven & I. If it gets big, then yay! If not, totally fine.

So on to our wedding day! Wow. I can’t believe it’s been 4 months already. Time definitely goes by fast when you get to spend everyday with your best friend. Steven and I got sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on August 22nd, 2015. A day I want to relive over and over.

The day before we took bridals and did the “first look” photos at El Matador State Beach in Malibu, CA.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and it was SO MUCH FUN! Some of my favorite photos are from the beach. That night we had our really relaxed rehearsal dinner at one of Steven’s groomsmen’s home in La Cañada, CA.  After the rehearsal dinner, Jaime, Emilee, my photographer Hunter, My make up girl Tiffany, and My videographer’s assistant stay in my teeny tiny but cute hotel room.  I got to share my last night being single with some of my best friends though!

August 22nd, 2015 –

I woke up SO EARLY because our sealing time was at 9:30 – AKA you had to be at the temple an hour AND A half before it started so 8AM. I woke up around 5:45AM, showered, blow dried my hair (which takes forever), and woke up Tiffany to start doing my hair & make up! Thank goodness for best friends who bring you breakfast from the hotel kitchen AND blow dry your dress from you since they washed it the night before to get all the sand out. If you could see the sight of our little hotel room, you would die laughing. Steven came to pick me up and it was all getting SO REAL. Like I was getting MARRIED. Seriously mind blowing.

Steven and I got to the temple and I met up with Sis. Paul (Meagan Paul’s mom who’s like my 2nd mom) because she was my escort throughout the sealing and helped me in the Brides-room to get ready! This was my first time inside the Los Angeles temple and it’s just so BIG and so beautiful.

Our sealing was amazing.  Words can’t even describe the feelings that I had when I walked in the room and saw all of my closest family and friends. Funny story: I started tearing up and when I blinked… it was like BOOM. Black makeup just running down my face. I guess my makeup girl forgot to put waterproof eyeliner on me lol oops. I looked like a wreck.  But, thankfully Steven wiped those tears away so I wouldn’t get black on my dress.  It was a perfect PERFECT sealing.

After the sealing, Sis. Paul was helping me get ready and I put my wedding dress on and I was so excited!! But, all of my makeup was ruined! Tiffany, my makeup girl wasn’t endowed yet so she couldn’t go inside the temple but luckily she gave all of her makeup to Kari and she saved the day! Thank you Kari! Steven and I were supposed to be the first couple to come out but since i took forever to get ready, we were the last couple (there were 7 couples I think?) Luckily, we went last because that means more time on the stairs for family pictures!

The temple workers were so friendly and when it was our time to step out to see all of our family and friends.. they said “Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Johnson!!” We came out of the temple doors and it was like one big party!!! Oh man, I loved seeing everyone I knew outside the temple! The first person to hug me was my mom.  She looked so happy and that’s when I knew I just did something right! Since my family are not members of the church, they were not able to go inside the temple to witness my sealing.  They patiently waited outside and I greeted all of them with big hugs.

Then we took photos.. lots of them.  Hunter was so fast and efficient that we were done with family photos in minutes! Then we took bridesmaid & groomsmen photos. Also props to Hunter for working with 14 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen! it was a huge party! I’m glad I had that many bridesmaids because when are we all going to be together in one place ever again? I love all of those girls so much!

Steven and I took Bride & Groom photos around the temple and it was so fun just being newlyweds! I’ve dreamed about this day my entire life and I can’t believe it was happening! After the temple, we went to Diddy Riese so Justin can film us eating our favorite dessert! When we got there our friends were already there! As we were walking out of Diddy Riese, the pizza place next door – Pieology were in aww that we just got married! We went inside because Hunter & Tiffany went and got pizza and they were like “We are so glad you came in!!! Here, come.. order a pizza, it’s on us!!” Tender mercies because we were STARVING! and they were so fun! We took pics with them in the kitchen and got to make our own pizza!!

After Pieology,  we drove to Vista Hermosa Natural Park because of the great views of the city. It was a little hike up to this bench where it’s the best place to take photos and film.  Google did not lie and the view was breathtaking of the city.  Steven and I were kinda tired and it was really hot so we were only there for about 30 minutes. Then we were on our way to our ring ceremony!!

Our ring ceremony was located at the same backyard our reception will be.  We got there and the caterer was still setting up so we had time to freshen up and relax before the ring ceremony.  The backyard looked AMAZING by the way.  It was everything I pictured.  Black & white stripes, lots of colors, flowers, everything was what I wanted. The ring ceremony was supposed to start around 5:15 because the reception was at 6PM.  We only invited our close friends and family because we wanted this to be more intimate.  But, my dad was running late!! So we decided to have my stepdad walk me down the aisle.

The ring ceremony was perfect.  it was what my family needed to see to know for sure that we actually got married since they couldn’t go inside the temple.  I’m really glad we had a ring ceremony because it made our non-member friends participate in some type of wedding event. Steven and I told each other why we love each other and yes, I cried.  I always cry lol

The Reception –

The reception was so fun!!! We had a pasta bar, crepes, mini doughnuts on top of shot glasses of milk, photo booth, lots and lot of dancing! So many of my friends from high school came and it was so great to see all of them! It was like a mini reunion. I loved dancing the night away with steven and all of my friends and family! So many people came from everywhere!! Honestly, i was so shocked but I love everyone that came and the people that I met as well! We had a bubble exit & we were off to our hotel in Pasadena!

Thank you all so so much for making our day so perfect.  We couldn’t have done it without any of you.  We feel so loved and we are definitely blessed to have the most amazing friends and family. It’s been a great 4 months of marriage and I can’t wait for the many more months we get to spend with each other! Enjoy the photos and our wedding video!!

xoxo,

Lizzie Lin Johnson
